Jee Won Kim is a composer, pianist, and music educator based in New York City. Jee Won has extensive experience teaching piano, composition, and music theory to students of all ages and levels. She loves getting to know each student and tailoring lessons to their individual needs, interests, and goals. She approaches each lesson with an open mind and a warm heart, believing that students learn best when they are genuinely engaged in the music they are working on. She hopes to create a supportive learning environment where students feel both challenged and cared for.
Jee Won's music explores the relationships between time, space, and perception, often drawing inspiration from literature, visual art, and architecture. She creates a personal sound world that extends beyond the auditory, inviting music to be seen, touched, and felt as much as it is heard. Her work has been performed by ensembles and performers including the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Unheard-of//Ensemble, and con:trust, and presented throughout the United States, Europe, and South Korea through concerts, festivals, and conferences dedicated to contemporary and experimental music.
She holds a Doctor of Music degree in Composition with a minor in Music Theory from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she served as an Associate Instructor in Composition and Music Theory. She also earned composition degrees from Chung-Ang University (BM) and Manhattan School of Music (MM). Jee Won is the Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Overtuned Fest, a festival dedicated to collaborations between contemporary classical music and experimental rock, and also serves as Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of ENAE, a collective of Korean women composers.
